Josephine was born in Mellieha, Malta in December 1934. She was the eldest of fourteen children born to Carmelo and Carmela. She spent countless hours with her paternal grandfather, James, in her youth and considered him her idol. Josephine met Joseph Stellini (also from Mellieha) when she was 16. They fell in love and were married in August of 1954. Josephine emigrated to the U.S. to settle with Joe in San Francisco. They were together for almost 41 years until Joe’s passing in March,1995. Josephine moved to Pleasanton, CA in 1997 where she lived out her remaining years.

Josephine and Joe had four children, Carmen (Charlie), Annette (Charlie), Jimmy (Deborah), and Julie. Adored grandmother of the late David Mifsud, Natalie, Andrew, Daniel V., Laura, Jessica, Daniel S., Samantha, and Paul. Josephine was also a great-grandmother to Carmela, Marie, Giuliana, Grace, Cameron, and Anthony.

Joe and Josephine were parishioners of St. Paul of the Shipwreck Church and dedicated members of the Maltese American Social Club. Guza was well known for her pastizzi making craft and supplying them to the Club each weekend for many years. She enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Mellieha, Malta, even as recent as last September to visit her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling to Sydney, Australia to visit her daughter and family as well as her ties to the Maltese community of Sydney.

Josephine enjoyed cooking traditional Maltese meals and always welcomed Joe’s friends for a meal after their Sunday morning gatherings at the Maltese Club. She also passed the time knitting caps and booties for newborns donating them to local maternity wards and giving to family and friends.

Josephine passed away at her home in Pleasanton, CA on July 29th, 2024, at age 89. She will be remembered and dearly missed by many.
