Ruby U. Miller resident of San Ramon California a beloved mom, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, November 1st.
Born Ruby Walton, the daughter of Andrew Jackson Walton and Buelah (Henke) Walton in Tennessee. Daughter of an Air Force pilot, her family found themselves living in many places including Newfoundland and Germany until the family settled in Sacramento, CA during her high school years. She graduated from El Camino High School and after some college, Ruby met and married the love of her life Douglas Gary Miller. Ruby and Doug initially moved to San Francisco for a short time before settling in San Carlos to raise their two children. She worked as an Art Teacher at Brittan Acres Elementary School while her kids were young, then worked at Sequoia High School, in Redwood City, as an instructional associate running the (TAP) Teacher Advisement Program. She worked to help improve the grades and attendance of freshman students and families. Her office was often described as a safe haven for many students. Ruby was very involved in the San Carlos community, volunteering as PTA president, working on the Chickens Ball Fundraiser, and the Art League. She and Doug spent many of their weekends, holidays and birthdays with family and friends at their cabin in Arnold, CA. After living in San Carlos for 35 years, Doug and Ruby moved to Pleasanton to be closer to their grandkids. Upon their arrival in Pleasanton, Ruby jumped right in and joined many Pleasanton organizations; Newcomers Club, the Assistance League, and the Red Hat Society, where she made great friends and quickly filled their social calendar. They continued their love of hosting parties, luncheons, wine tastings, and traveling with friends throughout their retirement. Ruby had a passion for art and art history, and a love for the theater. She and Doug loved to travel with treasured friends where she could visit museums displaying works from her favorite artists as well as enjoying each city's theatre district.
She was a gifted crafter, quilter, painter, and miniaturist and enjoyed being a part of many clubs and groups of friends that got together regularly to work on projects. She also always had a project ready for grandkids to work on when they visited. She was a friend to many in both San Carlos and Pleasanton and will be greatly missed. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Doug Miller. She will be remembered with love by her children Scott (Jennifer) Miller of Gun Barrel City, TX and Andrea (Bill) Sadler of Pleasanton, CA and her 7 grandchildren Jackson, Jessica, Samuel and Max Miller and Samantha (Brett Walsh), William, and Andrew Sadler.
