Shirley Marceille McLaughlin was born on March 30, 1942 in Youngstown, Ohio, and passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026 in Alamo, California where she was a resident of the Welcome Home Seniors homecare facility.

Shirley grew up in Northampton, Ohio, and graduated from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education. After teaching for three years in Chicago, IL and Gary, IN, she moved to Oakland, California where she joined the Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Company. Her final position was as a Computer Systems Analyst Supervisor, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

Shirley and her husband, William, had been residents of San Ramon since 1973. They met in Oakland and married in 1971 at The Little Church of the West in Las Vegas. They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in September 2021. They enjoyed yearly trips to Maui during their work years, and became "cruisers" in their retirement years, visiting Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean Sea, the Panama Canal and the Mediterranean Sea, touring Barcelona, France, Rome, Lisbon, and the Azores. When they weren't busy cruising and making trips to the Mid-West to visit family, they spent time skiing at Lake Tahoe and other ski resorts in the West. They also enjoyed gardening, canning, and raising roses, having won many 1st Place awards at the Alameda County Fair and at various Pleasanton rose shows.

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Patrick McLaughlin, in February 2022; her mother, Elizabeth Wyant; father, James Wyant, Sr. (Kay); brother, James Wyant, Jr.; sister, Patricia Hill; brother-in-law, Bruce Rush; as well as four nephews. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, James and Margaret McLaughlin; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jim McLaughlin, Tom McLaughlin, Patrick McLaughlin; Suzie (Dick) Cain, Jean ( Joe) Reed, and Margie (Vince) Sanzotta. Shirley leaves behind four sisters in Ohio: Delores (Gerald) Posey of Barberton; Brenda Rush of Wadsworth; Barbara (David) Hawk of Akron; Karen (Brian) Burwell of Norton; and brother-in-law, James Hill of Barberton. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Cathy (Dan) Gillette of Chillicothe, Illinois; Glenda McLaughlin of Peoria, Illinois, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 10:00 am at Graham- Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First Street, Pleasanton, CA 94566. Internment services will follow at 12:00 noon at the Pioneer Mausoleum, Lone Tree Cemetery, 24591 Fairview Ave, Hayward, Ca 94542.
