Stephen Jon Oase (Steve), passed away on January 16, 2024 after a long illness, with family by his side. Born on August 11, 1943 in Oakland, CA, to Vernon and Verna Mae Oase. He was the oldest of 5 children.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Lucy, with whom he was married for over 42 years. She was his primary caregiver in his declining weeks and months. Her devotion and love was a gift of faith. Steve was the father of 3 children: Eric Oase of Las Vegas, NV; DeAnne (Jerry) Ball of Edmonds, WA; and Jeffrey Oase of Livermore, CA; 5 grand-children (Christopher, Matthew, Heather, Tayler, and Devon) and 2 great grandchildren (Cali and Carson). He is also survived by brothers: Kit Oase/Susan (Ripon, CA), Russ Oase/Kathy (Wilton, CA), Mark Oase/Nancy (Minden, NV), and sister Beverly Cobb/Kevin (Emmett, ID), and many nephews and nieces. Steve grew up in both Oakland and Castro Valley, CA, graduated from Castro Valley High in 1961. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served 4 years before taking regular employment with Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Company where he started as a meter reader and advanced to various positions that included Customer Services Supervisor, Credit & Collections Project Manager, and retired as a lead investigator in their energy diversion program in the East Bay, after 38 years of service.

Steve was an outstanding athlete and all-around natural to most team and individual sports. He enjoyed playing, coaching and directing many different sports including baseball, softball, basketball, bowling and golf. He played competitive and co-ed sports. He directed the Pacific Service Employees Assoc. golf club for many years and golfed many courses in N. California, around the country, and in Hawaii, Mexico and Scotland. Over the years he achieved a first place, second place and 2 third place finishes in the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) Senior Net Amateur championships. He was always up to a challenge. Steve coached baseball at Amador Valley HS, Pleasanton American Little League, Pleasanton American Senior League, Hayward Babe Ruth, Mt. Eden American Little League, and Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) in Hayward. He also coached basketball at Chinese Christian School in Alameda, Pleasanton Youth Basketball, and CYO in Hayward. On his off days he would frequently be seen mowing the lawn at his church in Alameda. He had the unique opportunity to direct on-field security at the Cal football games for many years including the eventful day when the Stanford Band flooded the field before the end of regulation play leading to a Cal Big Game victory. Steve and his wife and family enjoyed many times together at PG&E's Camp Pit, travels around the country, Hawaii, Mexico, England, and Scotland.

The family would like to thank the angels of Hope Hospice and Kaiser Permanente who provided such tender care and support for Steve. We are so thankful for the many family members, church family, friends, former teammates, and former coaches, for the phone calls, visits, and support during the waning days of his life.
