Lasting Memories

Cecilia Andrade Hughes
Dec. 20, 1931-March 5, 2018
Pleasanton, California

Cecilia was born on December 20, 1931. She was the daughter of Jose and Emilia Andrade, Portuguese immigrants from the Azores Islands. The Portuguese culture of belief in The Lord was the foundation of the family's life. Cecilia grew up during the Great Depression, spending years on a dairy farm in Lemoore, California. She became involved with farm duties at an early age including milking cows each morning and evening and many other chores. She graduated from Lemoore High School where she was active in sports and other activities.

She married Homer Hughes in 1952 and was married for 56 years. They moved to Pleasanton in 1954 where she has lived ever since. They had three children Ricki, Vicki Lynn and David; four grandsons Bryan, Daryl, Aron and Adam; and three great-grandchildren Chayce, Caitlyn and Hudson.

Cecilia was a devoted daughter - her widowed mother lived with the family for over thirty years. Cecilia worked for the Amador Valley School District for over 20 years having earned Employee of the Year awards.

Most important to Cecilia was her family. She anticipated the holidays and family get-togethers with great joy. She was a great cook. She decorated the house for Christmas early in December and kept the Nativity Scene year-round in her living room. She also enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers and plants.

Her family and friends will miss her loving care she had for them. She will be truly missed.
