Gary Hilton Palmatier 3/26/1948 – 7/21/2017 Obituary Parents: Wm J. & Hilton Audrey Palmatier He is survived by Wife of 31 years, Penny D. Palmatier; Son, Seth Hilton & Darlene Palmatier; Son, Jason Palmatier; Grandson, Tyler Hilton Palmatier; Sister, Wendy & Reuben Watanabe; nephew, Mark Watanabe. Gary was born 3/26/48 in West Nyack, New York, a graduate of University of Oregon 1969, a radio DJ known as “The Wasted Potato” for a number of years at KZEL, one of the first “rock” stations in Oregon and from 1978 – 2013 a licensed Real Estate Broker in Pleasanton CA. He retired to Bend OR 2013. His loves consisted of Music, all genres, making mixed CDs & taking a thermos of coffee on 3 hour road trips at dawn on unvisited highways & by-ways. Train rides with his grandson, walking his dog Barkley, old movies, crosswords & his “A’s” completed the picture of his outgoing personality. Gary: Thank you for making our family into what it became… You are loved and will be missed by so many.

Gary and I were friends dating back to 1967 or 1968 when he was a frequent fixture in our Brooklyn apartment (always willing to make the Sunday night drive from Rockland County into the city). Our mutual addiction to Leonard Cohen's music brought us together. When he left for Eugene (OR) I thought I'd lost him forever, but a few years ago, through the miracles of social networking, I found him again and we enjoyed hours of on-line correspondence, catching up and reminiscing about the years and memories gone by. Gary was a big part of my youth and a dear dear friend. I know how he suffered since 2003 and often wished for a magic eraser to take away his pain. He so loved his new life in Bend but always had fine memories of Pleasanton. I think Barkley and Sonny will miss him almost as much as the rest of his close friends. My heart goes out to Penny and his family.
