Lasting Memories
James Worth Braden
Dec. 15, 1937-Oct. 18, 2026
Danville, California
In loving memory of James Worth Braden. December 15, 1937, to October 18, 2026
James Braden, 88, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away the morning of October 18, 2026, surrounded by family. He was a true Southern Gentleman whose life was defined by kindness, grace, and a love for family, friendship and the simple pleasures of life.
He was born on December 15, 1937, in Birmingham Alabama to Walter and Ruth Braden. After graduating Samford University, James and June (deceased 2004) along with their 3 boys eventually navigated to Danville, CA in 1973. Bringing their southern warmth, charm and gracious spirit, they made many lifelong friends in the Greenbrook and Blackhawk communities.
James easily connected with people around his love of golf, Friday night happy hours at the Club, and talking to neighbors on his walks around the community (at one point with 3 Basset Hounds in tow!). Whether he was spending time with loved ones, enjoying a day on the golf course, taking a long walk, relaxing with a good glass of wine, or preparing a delicious meal, James knew how to savor life.
James had a noteworthy career spanning 40 years as an executive working for H.J. Heinz and Superior Coffee/Sara Lee. He was an outstanding leader, mentor, and friend to so many colleagues and industry contacts. He earned respect as a man of his word, and often did business with a handshake and mutual trust.
He loved the game of golf, the camaraderie it brought, and the time spent outdoors with friends, family and business associates. To him it was about more than the score on the scorecard; it was about good company, good conversation and enjoying every round along the way.
James truly loved to cook. Working in the Food & Beverage industry for so many years inspired his passion to create and share interesting food, wine and conversation. He hosted countless dinner parties throughout his life, beginning in the 70s.
Above all, James treasured his family. He is survived by his wife Ann; his sons Barry, Brian and Brad; and granddaughter Bella who brought him great joy and pride. In 2008, James and Ann brought together the Braden’s, Goldt’s and Dutto’s as a blended family resulting in many years of happiness.
James leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories and the timeless example of a gentleman who knew how to appreciate life and treat others with kindness and respect.
Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will carry on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Rest in Peace James. May your next round be on the most beautiful course imaginable, with sunny skies, green fairways, and a loyal Basset Hound by your side.
