Pleasanton, California
John (Jack) Miller, age 79, was called to heaven on Thursday, November 21, 2024. He was born on July 12, 1945, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to John and Pauline (Cashman) Miller. As a Bay Area native he and his wife moved to Pleasanton where he resided for 52 years. Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patty Miller, his children, Amy (Dave) Statham, Matthew (Lisa) Miller, his grandchildren Austin & Hannah Statham, and Gianna & Niko Miller. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, Papa, uncle, brother and friend. The third eldest of 10 children, Jack is survived by Karen Boyd, Peggy Fraser, Chuck Miller, Marya Cambra, Monica Miller, and Ron Miller. Jack was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill Miller, Keneth Miller, Paul Miller, in-laws Roy & Mary Lee, Ray Valladao, & Burke Webb. Jack was a reservist with the United States Marine Corp for six years. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant (E-5) on November 21, 1972. His military service prepared him for his leadership role with the Alameda Fire Department. His career was one of his loves and it’s here that he formed lasting friendships and grew in his faith. He retired after a long rewarding career as a Captain in 1999. Jack's legacy will live on through those who loved him, the many stories he shared, trips taken with family and friends, his long career as a fire Captain, his faith, loyalty, honesty, the many “Jackisms”, along with his generosity and devotion to his family. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and was an expert bleacher coach (versed in ice hockey, softball, baseball and soccer). He enjoyed caring for his yard, was an avid reader, and enjoyed discussing and following world events. He and Patty spent many years caring for their grandchildren. Jack's trademark was his mini cooler, cup and diet Pepsi. He never left home without them. A celebration of life will take place at Valley Community Church in Pleasanton, CA (4455 Del Valle Parkway) on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers please donate to St Jude Children's hospital, Samaritan’s Purse, Smile Train, The American Heart Association, Tunnels to Towers or a charity of your choice.
