"There's no normal life, it's just life."

Jon Lopez, a Pleasanton resident of 41 years, passed away on September 11, 2025 at the age of 74 after a months long battle with cancer.

Born in Van Nuys in 1951, Jon grew up in Southern California with his six brothers and one sister before moving to Pleasanton in 1984, where he worked for ValleyCrest Landscaping for more than three decades.

A lover of books, puzzles, soccer, golfing and fishing, Jon could fill a movie theater with his laugh and talk the ear off of anyone he met. In his final years, he was happiest when gardening, but the most recent achievement he was proudest of was helping his grandson win the Cub Scout pinewood derby. With his quiet last words of “mama,” we hope that if possible, he was reunited with his beloved mother Verna at the time of his death.

Jon is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen; his four children: Christopher, Niki, Jason, and Angela; daughter-in-law Shaine; his five grandchildren: Harlee, Samirah, Joshua, Asher, and Melody; six of his siblings; and his dog, Barney. Besides his mother, Jon was preceded in death by his father, Steve; step-father, Frank; and older brother, Steven.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks anyone interested in honoring Jon’s memory to donate books to their local library.

Thanks for always being there Daddo.
