Ann, My condolences to you and your family. When I was informed of Frank's passing, I was in disbelief since Frank was always physically active and mentally alert. As you may recall, Frank & I used to jog regularly at the University and I can attest to the speed & endurance of his long, lanky legs. At the University, Frank was the epitome of a well learned & independent thinking Professor.On matters that he had an informed opinion, he would carefully listen to various inputs yet always trust his 'inner' judgment. He took a stand on many issues regardless of their popularity. When Frank retired in 2012, the University lost one of its most independent-thinking Professors. Frank will be missed both as a trusted friend and a respected colleague.

I had the pleasure of having Professor Lowenthal as one of my teachers while at CSUH. I also got to work with him during my time at the University Bookstore. I remembered he was always kind and caring to me and the staff at the Bookstore. As a student employee, that meant a lot to me! Rest in Peace Professor Lowenthal.

I was Frank’s officemate for many years both at Hayward and Concord. We spent many enjoyable hours together complaining, reminiscing, arguing and laughing about our experiences at CSUEB as well as life in California and NYC. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a quirky view of life that I enjoyed very much. He was a dedicated teacher who spent many hours in the office tutoring students. His joi de vivre was contagious and, although not always appreciated by his colleagues, his views contributed to many hours of academic discussions.

Frank was one of a kind for sure, and a great neighbor. We will miss him but will remember his kindness, adventurous spirit, and his passion for the things he believed in. Go Yankees!

Wow Dave. He had such a full life. It sounds like he had a lot of passion and loved life. I'm sure he had few regrets.
