Freddie Leon Houston, head football coach at Los Banos and San Ramon High Schools and later co-founder of Mission Hope Day Program passed away at the age of 91 on November 30, 2023 in Pleasanton surrounded by his family. We are grateful for the thoughts and prayers and will continue to celebrate his life and remember him, today and forever as a beloved Husband, Father, Coach and Friend. Fred Houston was born in Red Rock, Oklahoma on November 23, 1932 and spent his youth in Texas prior to his family moving to the Central Valley, California. Fred was a three- year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball at Shafter High School '51 and won all-conference honors in football and basketball. He attended Fresno State on an athletic scholarship and after graduation played football for the Special Services team of the United States Army. Norman Wallis Kester passed away on November 23, 2023, at Pleasanton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at the age of 88. Norman was born August 29, 1935, at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, California to Clarence A. and Bernice K. (Lund) Kester. He spent his formative years in Alameda and Hayward California. He was a Chief Warrant Officer in the California Army National Guard when he retired in August 1995. He spent over 40 years in the military. On April 27, 1958, he married Suzann Kester in Karnak, Ill and they spent 65 years together 59 years of which were spent in Pleasanton, California where they were charter members of the Pleasanton Chapter of the United Methodist Church. Joyce A. Robinson, a long-time resident of Pleasanton, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the age of 99. Joyce was born in London, England on July 30, 1924, to Henry William Brewer and Emily Louisa Brewer. She was evacuated to Cornwall along with her younger sister Vera at the start of WWII, later returning to London where she lived and worked during the Blitz of 1940 and 1941. She had a successful career as an Executive Secretary and taught typewriting and business skill classes at the Woolwich Polytechnic in London. After travelling in Europe during her twenties, her adventurous spirit led her to North America, where she worked her way across Canada for two years before coming to the United States and falling in love with San Francisco. She immigrated to the United States in 1958 and met Al Robinson on a Sierra Club outing. They married in 1959 and in 1961, their first daughter was born, followed by a second daughter in 1964. A beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. Born in San Francisco, Terry was raised by her mother, Marie Haff, in Burlingame, California with twin sister, Kathy, and sister, Lee. She graduated from Burlingame High School in 1965 and then attended the College of San Mateo. Terry went on to join Pan Am airlines as a flight attendant and traveled the world sharing in many adventures with her twin sister by her side. She later married high school sweet-heart, Don Lembi. Together they raised their three daughters Nicole, Jackie and Danielle. Terry was extremely involved in PTA and school events, leading the charge to provide for her children and community. Later, when Don ran for city council and Mayor of Burlingame, Terry was instrumental in managing a successful campaign and standing by his side to support in every detail. Richard L. Silla, Resident of Danville. October 4, 1928 - October 6, 2023. Rich passed peacefully at his home of 45 years, just two days after his 95th birthday. Born in San Jose, he attended Oakland schools, and upon graduation from Fremont High School, went to work for his father’s business, C.G. Silla Music Company. Two years later he joined the National Guard, and a year after that, he married Gail Killian, his high school sweetheart. Before being discharged from the Guard, Rich was sent overseas to serve a year in Korea. After that, he returned home to go back to work in what later became the family business, Silla Music Company. After their father (C.G.) retired, Rich, together with his brother Joe, ran the business until they both retired in 1991. Rich had a full life with Gail, his beloved wife of nearly 67 years. They were very active socially, until her passing in 2016. Rich greatly enjoyed boating and water skiing in the early years, but the latter half of his life was devoted to golf. A decades long member of the Pleasanton community, he was 79, and a resident of The Parkview Assisted Living Facility. He was born on February 18, 1944, in New York, New York, to James Goff Howell and Sarah Frances (Flowtree) Howell. He and his family then relocated to Nebraska for a few years before making California their permanent home. Steve attended San Leandro High school where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Pam (Davis) Howell. They were married for 59 years and raised three children together. Steve served as a firefighter for the city of Berkeley for many years before attending Cal State Hayward and earning a bachelor's degree in political science. Here she met and married John Slade. They raised five children, each born in a different state. She started her career as a librarian, and continued her education, earning a Masters Degree in Library Science at Rutgers University. Her professional career also included information management at AT&T. After living in nine states and fifteen residences, Marilyn and John retired in Pleasanton. They were married for 63 wonderful years. She loved writing poetry and short stories, reading books, and traveling extensively in the US and abroad. Ann Frobose, a devoted follower of Jesus, went home to her Lord Sept. 25, 2023. She was 87. Ann’s lifelong love of learning was wide ranging. One expression of this was her extensive and deep study of Christian literature. Her sister, Pat Wahlen, said “She had a strong sense of God and Jesus and knew more about the Bible than anyone I knew.” Ann taught children’s Bible School for many years and led many Bible studies. She was a valued member in a variety of groups and communities. She maintained a lifelong bond with a group of classmates from Middlebury College. For years she and Rich participated in an Ignatian Companions group in Berkeley that focused on Catholic studies and community service. Ann’s passing will leave a hole in these and many other groups. Pat was born and raised in Perry, OK and grew up surrounded by family, including an older sister, Peggy, and three younger brothers, Ralph, Don, and Ken as well as an extended network of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins remaining dear to her throughout her life. Pat was a proud member of the Studebaker clan, fascinated by the family history, in the '80s, she refurbished a 1960 Studebaker convertible to honor the family industry. Her interest further led her to travel to the birthplace of the Studebaker family in Germany, even meeting a few distant cousins along the way. Steve Pinto was born as the second of six children to his parents Larry and Ruth on December 7, 1952. He grew up in Oakland and graduated from Skyline High School in 1971. As the son of a 35-year veteran of the Oakland Fire Department, Steve joined the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) in 1974. His younger brothers Mark and Chris would end up working as firefighters as well (Alameda County and Berkeley) to cement a Pinto family legacy committed to fire protection in the East Bay.
